Standup paddle boarding, also known as SUP, is an exciting water sport originally born in Hawaii. Standup paddle boarding takes place in shallow water where the boarder stands upright and paddles in a relaxed and controlled manner in order to propel himself through the water without the risk of capsizing or losing balance. The original standup paddle boarding is made up of just a single paddleboard, one person, and one board. Modern standup paddle boarding includes more than one board and more than one person.

Standup paddle boarding is similar to wakeboarding except instead of wakeboards being used, stand up paddle boards are propelled by a single person and a single paddle. Unlike wakeboarding, stand up paddle boarding has a shorter track record, but it has its fans.

Standup paddle boarding, unlike wakeboarding, does not require special clothing or gear. It is believed that wearing wetsuits would hinder a standup paddle boarding session since wetsuits hinder the free flow of air during a windsurfing session. Standup paddle boarding requires no helmet; however, goggles may be worn for extra protection when entering water from the shore.

There are different types of standup paddle boards, which depend upon the intended activity they are meant for. The most popular is the twin-engine surf boat that is commonly called the Stand Up Surf Boat. This type of boat features twin engines that propel the boat forward with the power of the two motors. These boats have a long, straight hull and are usually quite large. They have been very popular among skydivers, who can experience a thrilling sky dive while on board.

There are smaller standup paddle boating boats that feature a short wheelbase with a single engine. Some of these boats have been converted into jet skis, allowing the owner to enjoy a more extreme water activity. Other standup paddle boats feature an extended platform that offers a great deal of visibility and stability.

When choosing standup paddle boards for your next day of outdoor activity, consider the type of terrain you plan to go sailing on. Smaller boards are more suited for flat and light waters whereas twin-especially if you plan to go sailing in waters close to land-are best suited for hard water. For extreme waters, an eight-the largest size available-standup paddle boats are ideal. and will provide excellent thrills and exhilaration.

Standup paddle boards are very versatile; however, if you are looking to enjoy a water activity outdoors for an extended time period, or are unsure how to handle a small paddle, it is advisable to choose a larger board to avoid getting stuck or slipping in the water. Smaller boards are also safer than they look.

Because standup paddle boards come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, it is easy to find one to match your preferences and personal preference. The standup paddle boating community has an extensive collection of these boards for all skill levels.
